GALILEO highlighted at ASF-FORUM 2025 through the “I raise my sheep in the Countryside” initiative

From 31 August to 5 September 2025, Dakar, Senegal hosted the African Forum for Food Systems (AFS Forum) (https://afs-forum.org) a major continental event dedicated to transforming Africa’s food systems through innovation and sustainability.

Representing the GALILEO project (https://galileo-project.eu/), Al Housseynou Niang (PhD candidate, Centre de Suivi Écologique) introduced a groundbreaking mobile application titled “I raise my sheep in the countryside” (https://galileo-6c34c.web.app/). This GALILEO innovation is redefining how livestock is raised, managed, and valued in Senegal.

This mobile phone App offers a responsible and transparent model connecting rural producers with urban consumers directly for raising and selling sheep, ensuring animal welfare, traceability, and fair income for farmers. More than a digital tool, it embodies a new ecological vision: closing the loop between livestock and land by promoting the return of organic matter to the rural soils, not downtown, and restoring natural fertility cycles.

Throughout the forum, Mr. Niang engaged with researchers, NGOs, startups, and policy actors, discussing this integrated approach that bridges  livestock, soil fertility, and agroforestry systems, though a short supply chain at fair prices. These exchanges highlighted how mobile innovation can drive sustainable agriculture, climate resilience, and inclusive rural development, all central goals of the GALILEO project.

This original initiative of the GALILEO project is supported by the Sustainable Development Project for Pastoral Farms in the Sahel (PDEPS) of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Livestock (MASAE) of Senegal.

All project activities will be published on the project’s social media accounts. Stay tuned!
