Assessing progress made in implanting Galileo Agroforestry Farmers Field Schools in Cameroon: Initial Ideas

The meeting opened with introductory remarks emphasising the strategic importance of the session for the overall implementation and progress of the GALILEO project. A comprehensive review of the different Work Packages (WPs), tasks, deliverables, milestones and reporting deadlines was conducted, allowing each team to present the status of ongoing and completed activities, achievements made so far and challenges encountered during implementation. Discussions also focused on coordination among consortium partners, compliance with project timelines and opportunities for improving efficiency and collaboration across activities. Following this technical review, the different Farmer Field Schools (FFS) teams presented the findings from the first field visits carried out on the selected plots. The presentations highlighted the identification and characterisation of the plots, inventories of available farm resources, existing farming practices and local innovations, as well as the major constraints and problems affecting the production systems. Preliminary interventions and recommendations proposed to improve farm management, productivity and sustainability were also discussed.

The second phase of the meeting focused on the analysis and evaluation of the field results presented by the FFS teams. Participants engaged in critical discussions on the relevance, effectiveness and potential impact of the implemented activities in relation to the project objectives and expected outcomes. Particular attention was given to the strengths and weaknesses observed during field implementation, the adoption of recommended practices and the scientific and operational value of the results generated so far. The meeting also provided an opportunity to identify key challenges and lessons learned, including logistical constraints, delays in implementation, monitoring difficulties and communication issues among stakeholders. Finally, discussions were oriented towards the next stages of the project, with emphasis on aligning future activities with strategic priorities, strengthening collaboration among partners, enhancing dissemination and stakeholder engagement, and developing the 2026 operational action plan. This included defining priority activities, expected deliverables, timelines, responsibilities and monitoring mechanisms necessary to ensure the successful achievement of project objectives.

All project activities will be published on the project’s social media accounts. Stay tuned!
